An Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is a health care facility that provides surgery under different specialization. The surgery center is an outpatient setting that also provides certain diagnostic and pain management services apart from the actual surgery. ASC procedures are more intensive than what’s done in an normal doctors office but at the same time not so intensive as to need an hospital stay and can walk out of the surgery center in 24 hrs within the surgery taking place.
The surgery center procedures can be narrowed down to three main categories:
1. PRE-OPERATIVE PROCEDURE
  The most important information that’s focused at a pre-operative level in a surgery center is as below:
 
Arrow Discuss the proposed procedure with the patient
Arrow Discuss financial aspects with the patient if requested
Arrow Obtain required consent for the procedure that’s to be conducted
Arrow Assess pre-existing medical records and history
Arrow Plan the pre and post operative care depending on these conditions
2. INTRA-OPEATIVE PROCEDURE
The intra operative procedure is conducted on the day of the surgery and below details will be focused before the surgery:
 
Arrow On the day of the surgery the patient is asked to settle the financials before proceeding for the surgery
Arrow The patients vitals are physical fitness is checked before proceeding for the surgery
Arrow Consent forms and living will is signed by the patient
Arrow The patient is sent to the operating room and the concerned operating procedure is conducted.
3. POST-OPERATIVE PROCEDURE
The post operative procedure is where the patient will regain consciousness and below stated information will be counter checked before patient leaves.
 
Arrow Anesthetists would check the vitals to ensure the patient has returned to normalcy
Arrow Patient is explained regarding post-op care by the nurse and makes sure the patient is assisted home
Arrow Patient gets a follow up call from the surgery center on the patient’s health status
